Redwoods
Just 20 miles north of Trinidad, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and Redwood National Park offer some of the most spectacular old-growth redwood trails in California.
Don’t miss Fern Canyon. Its lush, vertical walls were featured in Jurassic Park. You can hike or drive to the canyon; the opening begins right at the beach.
Beaches & the Pier
Trinidad’s coastline is full of hidden coves, dramatic cliffs, and peaceful beaches all within minutes of town.
Trinidad State Beach is just below the town bluff, with trails leading to the sand and views of the iconic offshore sea stacks.
College Cove is a local favorite for tide-pooling and sunsets. Accessed by a short, steep trail north of town.
Trinidad Pier. Walk out over the water for sweeping views of the bay and harbor. You’ll often see seals, pelicans, and fishing boats heading out for the day. Grab coffee in town and take a morning stroll down to the pier, it’s one of the best photo spots in the area.
Scenic Drives & History
If you’re traveling along Highway 101 from the Bay Area on the way to Trinidad, take a detour through the Avenue of the Giants, 31-mile stretch lined with ancient redwoods. From Trinidad, the Avenue of the Giants is about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes driving time.
For a look at historic logging life, visit Scotia, a preserved company town 27 miles south of Eureka.

The Lighthouse Grill Perfect for a casual lunch or light dinner, located right next to the market in Trinidad. Known for great burgers, fish tacos, and house-made ice cream.
Seascape Restaurant Located at the Trinidad Pier with panoramic ocean views. A local favorite for seafood, breakfast, or a hearty lunch overlooking the harbor.
Heights Casino – Sunset Restaurant Just south of Trinidad on Patrick’s Point Drive, this restaurant offers fireplace seating and a stunning sunset view of Trinidad Bay. Ideal for a cozy evening or a romantic dinner.
The Larrupin Café A few miles north of town, this long-loved restaurant is perfect for a special night out. Expect creative dishes, an intimate setting, and attentive service — one of the best fine-dining experiences on the North Coast.

Six Rivers Brewery A lively local brewery with great food, house beers, and a legendary “House Salad” that’s a meal in itself.
Luzmila’s Mexican Restaurant Located near Carmela’s on Central Avenue. Serves authentic dishes and is well worth a visit for casual dining.

In Arcata

Local Tip: Reservations are recommended for The Larrupin and The Eatery during summer weekends. Most other spots are walk-in friendly and open for lunch and dinner.
